Marcel Mauss (pronounced mōs) was an influential French sociologist. While his areas of research brought him into a range of interesting territories of study including magic and sacrifice, his work on reciprocal gift-exchange cultures— especially the potlatch of the American Pacific Northwest— is his most famous contribution. For more information on his work and his conversion to Marcel Maus (pronounced mouse), please refer to the previous section. —Authro Noté
