Just because the Earth looks flat does not mean that it is.
A true flat-earther must venture out in due diligence to determine if the Earth is indeed flat. They must talk to those who have seen the sea monsters at Earth’s outer edge. They must talk to pilots who have had their flight plans changed last minute by strange men in suits and dark glasses. They must visit the graves of Earth scientists silenced because of their anti-sphere theories. Observing the flat horizon alone is insufficient. One must stand up and walk themselves out to the edge. And when one walks their way to the edge, one should bring along others who do not believe. That way, if they still do not believe when faced with such incontrovertible evidence, one can simply push them off.
Similarly, just because a rhizome looks flat— and just because the author or creator of a rhizome affirms the same— does not make it so.
One can observe so-called rhizomes all over the place. But it is not until one digs it up and interrogates the flatness (or lack thereof) of its structure, will one truly know if that rhizome is a rhizome. Only a completely flat structure can be considered a rhizome and any numbering system that introduces or tracks verticality within that system is evidence enough to disqualify a structure.
One might think that on a flat Earth there would surely be an abundance of flat structures. Thinking so would be an error. Rhizomes (truly flat rhizomes) are extremely rare and precious.
I have petitioned all numbers be done away with within MMHTT materials. It is this author’s position that a succession of numbers always suggests vertical ascension, even if the numberer has the flattest of intentions. So far, my petition has been unsuccessful and my calls have not been returned. —Author Note
